Frequently asked questions

What is a Smart Container?

A smart container is a standard shipping container fitted with connected technology: sensors, GPS, and a cellular connection, that turns it into an active source of real-time data instead of a passive steel box. Traxens equips containers this way to continuously track location, monitor security events, and report conditions throughout the journey, without relying on manual checks at each stop.

What type of data can be collected by a Traxens device?

A Traxens device continuously collects the container's GPS position, door-opening events, temperature, and any sign of device tampering. This data is transmitted in real time to the Traxens Visibility Platform, giving operators a continuous picture of where a container is and what has happened to it throughout its journey.

How can Traxens smart container technologies help detect illicit product contamination in shipping containers?

Traxens smart container technologies combine real-time location tracking with geofencing to flag events that happen outside a known, expected zone: a port, terminal, or scheduled route, as abnormal. A door opening or unplanned stop detected outside these approved zones is flagged instantly as a potential security anomaly, the same pattern typically seen in tampering or illicit contamination attempts during transit. This lets operators tell a legitimate container opening apart from a suspicious one, without waiting for a manual inspection at destination.
